In this Wikipedia entry, the author talks about what it means to go “viral” as well as the history and strategies behind the process. The author says that “going viral” “often misused or misunderstood as people apply it to any successful enough story without taking into account the word "viral"”, which is a good way to start explaining the process. The idea of going viral could be seen on different levels by different platforms or people. Also, an ordinary person like you and me, might see something as viral, that a superstar such as Justin Bieber might not see as viral. Also what even is viral? Is it just something a lot of people see? Something popular? Couldnt something be popular in one community and not the other, would that still be considered viral? Wikipedia said that viral is something “ that appeal to individuals with high social networking potential (SNP) and that have a high probability of being presented and spread by these individuals and their competitors in their communications with others in a short period of time”. So, in theory something could be viral in one community, country, or area, that may not be considered viral in another. Also how does one make something viral? Does it happen by chance or is it something that is completely planned. Som
etimes, it may be a little bit of both. In order to become viral, most times it involves “Social profile gathering, Proximity market analysis,Real-time keyword density analysis”. So i guess all you really need is a social media account and followers. Social Media has been a huge game changer in the “viral” market. Social Media allows something to very easily spread across different platforms, states, even countries. “The introduction of social media has caused a change how viral marketing is used and the speed at which information is spread and users interact”, making more and more items go viral, but allow for the amount of time that their “carrying capacity” allows, which is usually until something better comes along. Going “viral” is a big part of the media market today, and it is definitely changing the way we use and see media.
